Birthday Special: Aamir, the rocking Khan at 44

Aamir Khan aka Aamir Hussain Khan born on March 14, 1965 is an Indian film actor, director and producer. Proved his mettle in every field he takes on, the actorwould turn 43 tomorrow. We took a glance about his career overall and his journey which still going strong.

Aamir Khan started his career as child artist in his uncle Nasir Hussain’s film “Yaadon Ki Baraat” in 1973 but his professional career kick started with a Ketan Mehta’s film “Holi” in 1984.

That film didn’t do well at the box office and he tasted first success with his cousin Mansoor Khan’s film ”Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak” in 1988 and thus became a chocolate boy of Bollywood.

It was also through this film that he won his first Filmfare for Best Male Debut and since then he never looked back. After six previous nominations during the 1980s and 1990s, Khan received his first Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in Raja Hindustani in 1996, his biggest commercial success so far.

Due to his typical 'chocolate hero' looks; he was publicized as a teen idol.

After QSQT, he was seen in several other films in the late '80s and early '90s: Dil (1990), which became the highest grossing film of the year, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992), Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993) for which he also wrote the screenplay), and Rangeela (1995).

Most of these films were successful critically and commercially. Later on Andaz Apna Apna with Salman Khan is regarded his all time comedy film though this film didn’t get good reviews from critics.

But today also this film is loved by every one and there are rumors that the makers are planning to make the sequel of Andaz Apna Apna. But in 1996 he just had one commercial success “Raja Hindustani” which was directed by Dharmesh Darshan.

This film earned him his first Filmfare Best Actor Award, after six previous nominations, and went on to become the biggest hit of the year, as well as the third highest grossing Indian film of the 1990s and then he decided to do one good film every year.

So in 1997, he co-starred with Ajay Devgan and was paired opposite Juhi Chawla in the film Ishq, which performed well at the box office. In 1998, Khan appeared in the quite successful Ghulam, for which he also did playback singing and the song he sung, Aati Kya Khandala… became everyone’s favorite

After this in 1999, John Mathew Matthan's Sarfarosh was also quite successful gaining an above average box office verdict.

The film was highly appreciated amongst the critics especially Khan's
role as ASP Ajay Singh Rathod a dedicated, honest and an uncorrupt cop, as did his role in Deepa Mehta's art film Earth with Nandita Das.

But his first release for the new millennium, Mela, in which he acted alongside his real-life brother Faisal Khan, doomed at the box-office. While in 2001 he appeared in Lagaan.

The film was a major critical and commercial success, and received a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 74th Academy Awards.

Additionally, the film gathered critical acclaim at several international film festivals, in addition to winning many Indian awards, including the National Film Awards. Khan himself won his second Filmfare Best Actor Award.

After four-years of break from acting, Khan made his comeback with Ketan Mehta's The Rising in 2005, and later won a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance for his role in Rang De Basanti (2006). Later on he worked with Yash Raj film “Fannah” in which he played a negative role with Kajol as his love interest.

In 2007, he made his directorial debut with Taare Zameen Par, for which he received a Filmfare Best Director Award. In 2008 Khan appeared in the movie Ghajini.

The film was a major commercial success and became the highest grosser of the year while this year he will be seen again in Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots with Kareena Kapoor.

Aamir Khan as a producer In 2001, He founded Aamir Khan Productions with Lagaan which was directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar and then came Taare Zameen Par and through this film he turned into direction in 2007.

In 2008, he launched his nephew Imran Khan in “Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa” which was a commercial success and now next films under his production house are “Dhobi Ghaat” which is directed by his wife Kiran Rao and other film is “Delly Belly” in which Imran Khan plays the main lead.

Aamir Khan’s personal life His father, Tahir Hussain, is a film producer while his deceased uncle, Nasir Hussain, was a film producer as well as a director. He is an off-spring of the Muslim scholar and politician Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

He is also a descendant of former President of India Dr. Zakir Hussain and a second cousin to former Chairperson of Rajya Sabha Dr Najma Heptullah.

During the years of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Khan married Reena Dutta as a result of this marriage his parents did not approve because of her not being a Muslim and so Khan's marriage stayed a secret both from his parents and the media for a while.

Reena made a brief appearance in the popular song sequence Papa Kehte Hain in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Reena Dutta maintained a low profile and continued her job at a travel agency.

They had two children; a son named Junaid and a daughter, Ira, and led a quiet family life away from the public eye. Reena was involved, briefly, in Khan's career when she worked as a producer for Lagaan.

But a turning point came when in December 2002, Khan filed for divorce, ending the 15-year marriage, with Reena taking the custody of both their children.

On December 28, 2005, he married Kiran Rao who had been an assistant director to Ashutosh Gowariker during the filming of Lagaan. In 2007, his brother Faisal caused a media scandal by accusing Khan of mistreating him and forcing him to take medication.

Faisal has been said to be mentally unstable. In 2007, Khan was invited to have a wax imitation of him put on display at Madame Tussauds Museum in London.

@Nits: no problem yaar... lets just load this place with Aamir goodies Happy) I guess I need to find my Aamir sigs too...

@Peechan_Kaun: Welcome to the thread and to the forum. I saw you posted in the Star of the week thread too when it was Aamir's week. You seem to be a huge fan. :batting eyelashes

Acha... anyone know anything about 3 idiots? :-?

----------------------

The film directed by Raj Kumar Hirani is finally set to roll. The working title decided for the film is Three Idiots. After much speculation, Hirani has finally managed to get his cast together.

Hirani has signed Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, Madhavan, Boman Irani and Kareena Kapoor for his film. It will be remembered that Hirani went through many hitches before he could finally sign on his current cast of players.

First Look : Rajkumar Hirani’s Three Idiots

The film will of course be produced by by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who has produced the earlier Munnabhai series directed by Hirani as well.

The film’s story is based on the prevalent education system in our country. Three Idiots is based in an engineering college. The film is scheduled to hit the floors in the last quarter of the year.

----------------------

^ That's the article minus the SRK bits. No point mentioning anyone who's not part of the cast. (silly media wale) :batting eyelashes

scratch my thoughts... Aamir n Kareena... hmm.. that combination will just leave me thinking, not too sure... Happy)

Actually more than the cast, what interests me more is that it seems to be another down to earth story. I dunno much about the plot yet apart from what this article states but it seems as though it's not another pointless love story gone wrong. It's got me waiting for sure!

First a question for you Respected Admin ji. Are you the same "Henna Billi".
:batting eyelashes Now for SOTW thread well I posted in Kareena one. But YES I am a huge fan of Aamir. He is the KING khan now.Happy)

I have serious doubts over this combination. But you never know. Kareena showed she is good in Chameli. Under Aamir she again may give out something out of the way.

3 IDIOTS: Aamir not happy with the changed script?!!

Those who have been following our news section
regularly will recall that whenever there is a mention of Rajkumar
Hirani's 3 IDIOTS we have made it clear that it is not a total
adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's paperback, Five Point Someone.

If sources are to be believed, Aamir Khan is
doing a promotional song for DELHI BELLY and the Perfectionist Khan is
holding dress rehearsals at his Bandra home for the same. The song is
supposed to appear in the opening credits of the film. Apparently Aamir
is to wear a wig for the same.

@Amrit: great pics yaar... apart from the last punk type dress-up Happy)... he looks a lil odd but full points I guess for experimentation... imagine him having that look thruout the whole flick :rolling on the floor

@Donny: khud hamsha nashe mein rehte ho... trust u to post aisi song... :batting eyelashes

@Peechan_kaun: sahi pehchana Peechan_kaun ji... :Wink) Really was it in Kareena's SOTW? :-? acha if you're saying so it must be. Perhaps there was some mention of Aamir in that thread too.

Aur ji nahi I do not beleive he is the 'King Khan,' you can not overlook SRKs contribution to bollywood over the decade... not gonna say more about this. It's a very controversial issue and Donny will have to raise both our WLs if it gets out of control... :Wink) Just kidding.. I respect your perspective too..

But yes, I admire Aamir for his perfection and sense of direction. He does not create mindless bloopers thinking the audience are too stupid to notice. Happy:

Jokes apart... the tag line of the flick, 3 Idiots... 'chase excellence - success will follow' is pretty awesome. It's a good piece of advice for those that wanna be the icing on the cake :-?

Some good sources there Peechan_Kaun ji...

Definition of sad but true... read on... 'rolling on the floor'

Himesh can`t stop gushing about Aamir

Aamir Khan making remarks on Himesh Reshammiya's marketing strategy and trademark cap has made the musician- singer- actor feel over the moon.

Though many people found the remarks rather sarcastic, Himesh is ecstatic.

Aamir had apparently praised Reshammiya and called him a master of marketing.

He had said, "Wherever and whenever I see a topi (cap) I think of Himesh."

It seemed to be a sarcastic comment especially since the Reshammiya
strategy didn't work as the 'Karz' remake bombed despite all sorts of
publicity gimmicks.

But Himesh who likes publicity of all kinds is super
impressed, "If Aamir has spoken so well about me, I won't even think of questioning it. I take his words as a big compliment. I've been hearing some terrific stories about his dedication from (director) John Matthew Mathan. I must say he's very inspiring."

The situation is even more special as now he's busy shooting for "A New Love Ishtory" in Gujarat, where he plays a big Aamir fan.

"I am a huge fan of Aamir Khan. And what a coincidence that I'm
shooting for a film where I play a tapori who's a big fan of Aamir. The
role is inspired by Aamir's 'Rangeela'. In fact, my director is Mathan
who directed him in 'Sarfarosh'. Both of us just can't stop talking
about him."

Well, good for Himess bhai who loves to be in the news, come what may.

Just take a look at Aamirs pic... 'Happy)' himmat hui toh aage padhna...

Is Aamir Khan hunting for an item girl?
April 25th, 2009

Rumours are rife in the industry circles that Aamir Khan wants to have an item song in his home production Delhi Belly and is on the look out for an A list actress to perform it.

From what we have heard from industry sources, Aamir, the master
planner wants to give his medium budget production, Delhi Belly
starring nephew Imran Khan the big push by roping in a big starlet for
an item song. The song is not a gimmick but a part of the film.

Sources further reveal, “Apparently, Aamir first tried it out with his 3
Idiot’s co-star Kareena but since she is busy with shooting commitments she could not allot her dates. Roping of current flavour of the season Priyanka Chopra also crossed his mind but it seems it may be too much of an ego issue for him, since his request for a screen test for her during the casting of Ghajini had not gone down to well for her. Now it remains to be seen who shall be finally be the one who shall be chosen by Mr. Perfectionist.”

Knowing his penchant for perfectionism perhaps a reality dance show
hunt ala Shah Rukh Khan (he chose cheerleaders for his IPL team) might work? But then A list actress would certainly not participate in it. -Sampurn Media
